Swing Solutions Winter Program |
|
Dear Carolyn,
Lots of stuff happening this week! New grips for swinging and putting. The introduction of the Orange Whip for mastery of tempo and body motion. We dogged them on their posture (athletic, not slouchy, please).
Each player was given something unique to their swing, a movement that we want to conquer during the 8 weeks we are working together.
Some of the classes were introduced to "heartmath" and others were introduced to the "over the wall game." An advanced group of Derek Fiestadt, Willie Wittman, Tyler Prickette and Matt Winter played with their eyes closed - and they played very well.
Note to newbies: don't just skip classes if you have a conflict. I can fill your spot with another child and find a make-up time for you. Skipping leaves a spot unused and you less educated!

Filming
Ask your son/daughter if they understand correct vs incorrect posture and how that understanding changed their set-up.

Lecture Series
In the first lecture class, Steve gave each student a folder. In the back, there is a section with their goals. We have asked them to share this with their parents. You do not have to grill the kids about the goals, sometimes, it is just nice to be aware of their hopes and dreams. Steve and I read them all; it helps us get the child on the path they desire - and it helps us hold them accountable.
The advanced class is doing a book study. This year we have chosen Zen Golf. We chose this particular book because we are trying to help the players understand what is truly meant by "focusing." In week one, we learned about judging outcomes, processes and events - and whether our preconceived notions lead to misjudging events and missing opportunities.

Steve and I have been trying to reinforce eachother's lessons. At the practice sessions, we want the players to practice what they have learned at filming. Sometimes that means communicating to Steve what I have told them. Sometimes, he may give them a new thought. We want them to learn to express themselves when they are confused and ask for explanations. Truly, we do not try to confuse them; there are just many ways to say the same thing when it comes to golf. In the long run, this will enhance their learning experience.
