Swing Solutions Winter Program

Weeks  4 and 5

Dear Carolyn,

Coming up this week:  Sunday, March 7 at 4:30 we are inviting parents and students to a special session at St. Margaret Mary's.  Todd Monger will be making a presentation on sports performance and "The Zone."

Note to Participants - this is your lecture for the week of March 7-13.  Please attend Sunday night if you can.  If you are unable to attend on Sunday, we will repeat the lecture at 4:00 on Monday.  There will be no repeats on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Todd will be staying with us for three days, presenting two different group sessions aimed at helping the players improve their mental focus.  "Rocks that Block" and "Sand Play" will be offered this year.  The flyer for these sessions is in the player's handbook.  Players must take "Rocks that Block" before they can participate in "Sand Play."  The cost for these sessions is $25. Todd has assured me that those who have experienced sand play can continue to progress; he uses this technique weekly with some of his collegiate players.  Space is limited.

Please e-mail me if you are wondering if your child is ready for one or either of these smaller group sessions, or if you would like to register them for a spot. The registration form is in their handbook.

Hans and HenryFilming

We spent the week introducing them to three teaching aids.  We strapped their arms down, hoping to "quiet" their arms, making them rely on their core a little more.  Many struggled with the new feeling - which is very telling.  Feeling awkward for a bit is a good thing: it means they are learning new movements.
Lecture Series

Steve taught the kids how to navigate their way around the rule book.   Golf is a game of honor played amongst gentle people; Steve and I want the players to understand this concept, perhaps above all others.

This week is Carolyn's turn for lecture.

Sunday March 7, Parents and players will hear Todd Monger, North Central University Men's Golf Coach, teach them about being in an athletic zone.

Practice Sessions  - Club Fitting

In addition to practice, this week at St Margaret Mary's we will be doing club fitting for those who are looking for new equipment.  Many of you have asked us for advice regarding new equipment.  Proper fitting will take into account:  shaft flex and length, lie angle, grip texture and size, aesthetics, playability, cost and set composition.  To be fit properly, the fitter should also know the player's strengths and weaknesses.  We feel that we can fit anyone in our program.  Parents, if you would like to take this opportunity to be fitted, this is your chance.  If you are interested, please e-mail me this week and we will schedule a time between 10:30 and 2:30 on Saturday.

The following week, March 13 we will be conducting putter fitting sessions with the help of the folks from YES Putters.
Save the date - Sunday March 7 , 4:30 at St Margaret Mary

 Parents' Night/Players' Lecture

For an hour a half we will give you an opportunity to experience many of the things your children have been experiencing.  Appropriate attire: be ready to move!
